About
Hi, I'm James Walker, I am a professor in Technology in the Classroom and an Educational Technologist at a high school where I implemented a 1:1 iPad program. Supporting 600 students and families has resulted in countless of conversations about concerns about how to handle technology in the home.
This has been true with supporting teachers in the classroom as well, and I have taken what I have learned with teachers with me to support teaching credential candidates at Vanguard University in Southern California to develop a philosophy of technology in the classroom.
What I have discovered over my career is that nobody really knows the right thing to do, and there is plenty of conflicting research and even more conflicting opinions about how good or bad technology is. This leaves parents confused and frustrated, and often times leads to rules regarding technology that are either too strict, too lenient, or not carried out because it leads to fights.
While earning my Masters degree in Education in UCLA's Principal Leadership institute, I became convinced that learning best happens in communities of practice, especially when the problems faced are especially complicated. There are few issues in today's society that are as complicated as technology, but there are no communities stronger than the family.
After hundreds of conversations, dozens of parent workshops, and countless hours of supporting teachers in implementing technology in the classroom, I have created a digital course that will guide you through a process that uses your strengths as parents and as a family to create a healthy environment for technology use in your family, one that strengthens your family values and relationships in the home.
I strongly believe that there is no more effective process to help you navigate this digital world we live in, and am excited to help you create a healthy digital environment for your family.
